The main difference between film and digital is the process of actually creating or recoding an image and the cameras we might use to do this. Analog processes generally use a physical slice of light sensitive material (film) that records an image as light hits it (kind of like a small print that gets 'saved' in the camera and then revealed when we develop the film in funky smelling chemicals). This physical process means that we only get a certain number of images on a roll of film as it all needs to all physically fit inside the camera! For 35mm this is usually 24 or 36 images and for medium format it's usually 10,12 or 16 images. Once we get into the large format arena we are down to 2 images! One on each side of a dedicated film holder like this one.
On the other hand, digital cameras record your image using a sensor and we get files that we open on a computer. Pretty simple really!
In terms of what this means for you as the receiver of images, nothing really changes! The only real difference is aesthetics, film has a different look and feel to digital which is why we like it! So in the end, choosing to use film generally comes down to how you want your pictures to look, there are things digital still can't quite achieve in the same way film can, which I guess is why it's stuck around!
I believe film is for everyone as it has a magic quality to it that digital doesn't quite match. I like to incorporate a little bit of filmy goodness into every wedding I cover but if you are interested in more please reach out! I love any excuse to whipp out all my old cameras. For the curious out there, I use a Nikon f100 and a Leica m6 for 35mm. For medium format I have a trusty Pentax 67 and Mamiya RZ67 and for special large format occasions I also have a Toyo 8x10 tucked away.
OF COURSE!! I do weddings for everyone no matter how you identify and regardless of how you define your relationship. Love is love baby.
Life is complicated and the unexpected is to be expected. The deposit is non refundable as this helps to protect my business due to turning away all other booking for your wedding date. I hope you understand that deposit is insurance for my business to stay afloat in the event of a cancellation. I will do my best to accomodate any changes, so please reach out if you need to discuss any changes.
